San Diego, CA — April 12, 2025 — The San Diego Chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-SD) visited the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for a campus tour and a meaningful engagement with faculty from the UCSD Center for Taiwan Studies (CTS). The event served as a valuable educational opportunity for students to learn about the college application process, university life, and the academic and cultural resources offered by CTS.
Planned and led by FASCA-SD Assistant Mentor Adam Wang, a current UCSD senior, the event provided members with both academic insight and firsthand exposure to campus life. Wang’s dual role as a mentor and student added a relatable perspective that guided participants throughout the day’s activities.
The day began with an interactive panel session featuring current UCSD students and CTS faculty, including Jason Chien, Research Associate and Center Coordinator at the Center for Taiwan Studies. FASCA-SD members had the opportunity to ask questions and hear firsthand experiences about navigating college life, building meaningful connections, and discovering opportunities through campus organizations and CTS. Panelists also offered helpful advice on topics such as selecting majors, choosing the right college, and transitioning from high school to university.
Following the panel, students took part in a campus-wide scavenger hunt, splitting into three teams to race across UCSD’s most iconic landmarks. Stops included the Falling Star installation, Snake Path, Dr. Seuss statue, Geisel Library, Triton statue, Sun God statue, and the Rock Bear. The activity offered a fun and engaging way to explore the campus while building camaraderie.
The visit concluded with a casual gathering at nearby food and drink spots around campus. This relaxed setting allowed students to reflect on the day’s experiences and enjoy a taste of UCSD student life.
FASCA-SD member Aaron Hsu shared his appreciation for the experience:“It was extremely helpful and the panel was very informative. We’re now more prepared for the transition between high school and college, and we also got to experience the UCSD environment firsthand.”
This event not only deepened students’ understanding of higher education pathways but also strengthened their connection to Taiwanese culture through the support of the Center for Taiwan Studies.
